There are more than 2000 trade fairs in China every year, some of which are well known compared to others. In international fairs you can meet many Chinese suppliers and traders who can represent excellent new contacts for doing business.
The best known and best known Chinese fair is certainly the Canton fair which takes place every year in the city of Guangzhou (whose ancient name is, precisely, Canton).
There are fairs involving electronics items in Beijing and other fairs that take place in the Shanghai trade fair complex or in the other major Chinese cities and are, in part, linked to the industrial districts that have developed most in the various Chinese provinces.
Generally, the sites of the various trade fair organizations provide visitors with support to help them to find hotel accommodation or informations relating to exhibitors or, also, informationa relating to various modalities of transport on reaching a fair.
However, the most important and well-known fairs are the following:
- The Canton Fair
- The Yiwu Fair
- The Beijing auto Fair
- The Shanghai Import & Export Fair
- The Bauma Fair
- The Sial Fair in Shanghai

The Canton Fair
The Canton fair is a multisectoral fair, it covers a bit all sectors, or a large part of them, and takes place, following the vastness of the products and exhibitors present, in different sections:
- PHASE 1: concerning the exhibitors relating to the sectors:
electronics, electrical, building materials, industrial products
- PHASE 2: concerning the exhibitors relating to the sectors:
household goods, ornaments, toys, gifts, furniture, food
- PHASE 3: concerning exhibitors related to the sectors:
home textiles, clothing, shoes, accessories, luggage, medicines, electromedical tools, sports tools, household items, medicines, food.
It is difficult to make a clear list of all the products present, in fact the pavilions are very large and the articles included within each macro-category are manifold.
The Canton fair takes place twice a year, in spring and autumn; these are the dates on which it has been taking place for several years, for the respective sections:
Dates of the autumn section (year 2019/2020):
- Phase 1: 15-19 October 2019
- Phase 2: 23-27 October 2019
- Phase 3: 31 October - 4 November 2025
Spring section dates:
- Phase 1: 15-19 April 2020
- Phase 2: 23-27 April 2020
- Phase 2: 1-5 May 2020
The fair takes place from 9.30 in the morning until 18.00 in the evening. It is advisable to arrive at the fair on the first day and leave on the penultimate one. Generally on the last day, in fact, given the scarce presence of visitors, exhibitors begin to leave to return to their provinces of origin, leaving some collaborators at the fair that may not be exhaustive about the conclusion of a possible negotiation.
The Yiwu Fair
The Yiwu fair is also a fair that is held only once a year, always on the same date:
from 21 to 25 October 2025 and, for several years, the date is always the same.
It is a rather important fair and generally concerns small everyday and everyday objects. The most represented product categories are: sporting goods, kitchen items, household items, accessories, ornamental objects, decorations, beauty products, bags, suitcases, electronics, hats, clothing, office supplies and so on.
It is a fair where you can find many new and innovative objects, the main innovations are present in the Yiwu fair, precisely.
Beijing International Auto Fair
The fair is held every year from April 25 to May 5. It is one of the five most important trade fairs in the world for the automotive sector and the most important in all of China.
In this fair you can find all the world brands in the sector as regards cars and accessories. It is undoubtedly worth visiting, a very interesting event.
Bauma International Fair
This fair mainly concerns the building materials sector, construction machinery and building systems. This year will be held from 24 to 27 November 2020.
It is a very interesting fair for those working in the sector. In fact, every year it attracts a lot of visitors from all over the world and the opportunities to meet very interesting buyers or sellers are quite numerous, with advantages for all workers in the construction and construction sector.
Shanghai Import Export Fair (also known as the East China Products Fair)
The sectors represented are different, this fair, in fact, unlike the Canton fair has a regional connotation, as they can take you parte only the producers and traders that are located in the provinces east of China. In particular, most of the companies belong to the Zhejiang province (the province to which Shanghai also belongs).
This fair is held every year from March 1st to 4th.
6- The Sial fair in Shanghai
This fair is the most important of all Asia and it is the third in the world concerning the food & beverage sector. Most of the exhibitors are foreigners and they’re from all continents.
The last edition was visited by about 117,000 people, this is a very interesting fair for those who want to import or export food & beverage products in China or from China.
The fair is held every year from 13 to 15 May, but has been postponed to 2020, due to the Covid19 emergency, from 28 September to 30 September 2020.
